Approach

Meiklejohn Consulting's approach builds on Ph.D research conducted by Dr. David Meiklejohn on how Australian local governments work with their communities to respond to climate change.

The research identified weaknesses in current practice, including:

• a reliance on outdated behavioural change theories,
• limited evaluation and
• little integration between behaviour change and other local government climate governance practices.

The research also found limited understanding of how local government practices interact with and are influenced by practices performed within the home.

Our approach gives us a rounded view of the actions undertaken by households and businesses that local governments are trying to influence, to reduce emissions or improve resilience to climate change. We also closely examine the climate governance practices performed by local governments.

Ultimately, we seek to work with local governments to develop and implement effective interventions that drive systemic change.
